Autumn dangers for dogs: be careful while walking!
Autumn is magical: golden leaves, crisp air, walks in the forest... But the season hides many traps for your dog. Acorns and chestnuts that have fallen to the ground often attract curious dogs, but they are very toxic: ingestion = risk of vomiting, diarrhea, or neurological issues. The same goes for wild mushrooms, which can be deadly even with the smallest bite!
Don't forget about ticks either, which become very active as the air cools: they like to hide in tall grass and can transmit serious diseases (like Lyme disease).
How to protect your pup? During the walk, watch what he puts in his mouth. Keep him on a leash if he loves to sniff everything. Upon your return, check his paws, ears, and all his fur for ticks or debris stuck to him.
Some tips:
• Bring a treat to distract him if he finds a chestnut or a mushroom.
• Leer hem "laat" of "niet aanraken".
• Use a pipette or a flea collar.
• If you suspect poisoning (drooling, strange behavior, vomiting), hurry to the vet.
Autumn is fun, but a watchful eye will make every walk safe and cool! 🍁🐶🍄🦠
