The Alpine Basset is a very ancient breed, with ancestors used by hunters since antiquity. It became particularly popular at the end of the 19th century among the nobility, notably the heir to the throne, Rudolf of Habsburg, who took it with him on his hunts in Turkey and Egypt. Representing one of the best blood tracking dog breeds, it was officially recognized in 1932 and took its current name in 1975..

The Alpine Basset is a robust, muscular, and active hunting dog. Its short legs and boundless energy make it an excellent partner for search and tracking activities. Although very energetic, it can also thrive in a home with a fenced yard, where it can run and play, especially with children.
