The American Foxhound is the result of crossbreeding between the English Foxhound and hounds of French and Irish origins. The goal was to create a fast, resilient dog with an excellent sense of smell for hunting, particularly for tracking foxes and other large game. This type of dog emerged in the 1860s in the United States.
