Braque Saint-Germain

 🐾 History

The Braque Saint-Germain is a French hunting dog breed, originating from the Saint-Germain region, located north of Paris. This breed was developed in the 18th century by the French aristocracy, notably under the patronage of the Duke of Saint-Germain, from whom it takes its name. The Braque Saint-Germain was primarily used for hunting game birds, such as partridges and pheasants, due to its exceptional abilities in pointing and searching.

Although this breed is ancient, it nearly disappeared in the 19th century, but thanks to the efforts of passionate breeders, it has been preserved. The Braque Saint-Germain is now appreciated by hunters for its versatility, excellent scenting ability, and balanced temperament. Less known than other breeds of pointers, it is nonetheless recognized for its working qualities.
