🏞 History
Originating from the Azores, and more specifically from the island of São Miguel, the Cão Fila de São Miguel has been bred since the 15th century to protect cattle herds from predators such as wolves and foxes. Developed by Portuguese settlers, the breed was selected for its strength, courage, and loyalty.
In the 20th century, the breed nearly disappeared due to the decline of traditional agricultural activities. Fortunately, passionate breeders preserved this unique dog by making it known beyond the Azores. Today, it is recognized for its role as a fearless protector and its strong personality.
