Bracco Italiano (or Italian Pointer)

 🐾 Quick History

The Bracco Italiano is a very ancient hunting dog breed, originating from Italy. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, where it was used by nobles for game hunting. This dog was primarily developed for bird hunting, particularly feathered game, but it has also been used for hunting fur game. It combines the characteristics of "Braque" type dogs (retrieving dogs) and dogs that hunt woodcock and pheasant.

The Bracco Italiano has gone through different breeding phases over the centuries and, after a period of decline in the 19th century, the breed was rehabilitated in the early 20th century by passionate breeders. The Italian Pointer was officially recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1949.
