🐾 History
The Canaan Dog has its origins in Israel, where it descends from semi-wild dogs called "pariah dogs," which have been present in the region for centuries. These dogs were primarily used by Bedouins for herding and hunting. In the 1930s, Dr. Rudolphina Menzel, an Austrian zoologist, undertook to transform these semi-wild dogs into a standardized breed. She succeeded in making it a versatile working dog, suited to modern needs.
🐕 Breed Profile
The Canaan Dog is an agile, independent, and robust dog. Once used for guarding and work, it is now also appreciated as a companion dog. However, its stubborn nature and strong hunting instinct can pose a challenge for novices.
