The Grand Bleu de Gascogne has existed since the 12th century in the southwest of France. It was the boss of hunting big game like wild boars and deer. This dog descends from ancient hunting lines, including the Saint Hubert dog. It may have evolved from crosses with the Basset Saintongeois or through a mutation of the Grand Bleu de Gascogne. In any case, it was born to track and has a nose that would make detectives blush.
