🐾 History
The Broholmer is an ancient breed originating from Denmark, where it was primarily used as a guard and defense dog. This breed is closely related to large mastiff-type dogs, and it is believed that its ancestors were royal guard dogs, especially during the Middle Ages. The Broholmer was traditionally bred to protect properties, farms, and livestock. Due to its imposing size and protective nature, it was particularly valued as a guard dog for castles and estates.
In the 19th century, the breed nearly disappeared due to crossbreeding with other dogs. However, in the early 20th century, conservation efforts were implemented to preserve the breed, and the Broholmer was reintroduced as a companion and guard dog. Today, it is still used for surveillance tasks, but it is also an excellent family dog and a loyal companion.
