🐾 History
Originating from Portugal, the Cão Da Serra Da Estrela is an ancient breed dating back over 2000 years. Its ancestors, introduced by the Celts, were war dogs, but they quickly adapted to become herd guardians in the rugged mountains of the Serra da Estrela, the highest range in Portugal.
Known for its strength and courage, this dog protected sheep from predators like wolves. Today, it remains an excellent herding dog, as well as a loyal and protective companion for families.
🐕 Breed Profile
The Cão Da Serra Da Estrela is distinguished by its large size, robustness, and dense coat. Versatile, it is equally comfortable as a herd guardian and as a companion dog. Although independent, it is very attached to its family and also excels as a search and rescue dog in difficult terrain.
