The Picardy Shepherd, also known as Berger Picard, is a breed of herding dog originating from northern France, in Picardy. Used to guard sheep herds and as a working dog in difficult conditions, it is known for its robustness, agility, and loyalty. Although it is an ancient breed, the Picardy Shepherd nearly disappeared during the two world wars, but it was preserved thanks to the diligent breeding efforts of a few enthusiasts. It was officially recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) in 1957.
